The 2019 Science of Team Science (SciTS) conference will be hosted by Michigan State University in Lansing, Michigan. This year’s conference will review the current state of knowledge in the SciTS field, highlight practical tools, resources, and strategies for enhancing team science, and discuss future directions for advancing SciTS to improve the global scientific enterprise.

This review article, featured in a special issue of American Psychologist devoted to the study of teams, summarizes the empirical findings from the SciTS literature. Key themes include: evidence for the value of team science (TS), team composition and its influence on TS performance, formation of science teams, team processes central to effective team functioning, and institutional influences on TS.
Research on complex problems requires integration across boundaries. Intereach’s purpose is to articulate and promote the need for dedicated, high level career paths around interdisciplinary research expertise, and to build resources to improve practitioners' tools, best practices, success metrics, and institutional support for these emerging intentional career trajectories.
